About Prep – Year 9

Our mission is to teach students the vital skills and qualities they need for success at school and in life.

We do this by setting high expectations for our students and for the school.

We focus on:

  • Lifting student achievement in literacy and numeracy

  • Teaching students how to strive, set goals and excel

  • Building a strong school culture based on a love of learning, self-discipline, creativity and respect for others

  • Working closely with parents to improve student outcomes

  • Evaluating our progress to ensure we meet our goals

School Attendance – Every day counts

At Doveton College we all want our students to get a great education, and the building blocks for a great education begin with students coming to school each and every day.

Missing school can have a major impact on a child’s future – a student missing one day a fortnight will miss four full weeks by the end of the year. By Year 10 they’ll have missed more than a year of school.

There is no safe number of days for missing school – each day a students misses puts them behind, and can affect their educational outcomes.

Remember, every day counts.

At Doveton College we pride ourselves in the way we nurture and care for our students and work closely with our parents and wider school community to ensure that we make a difference to each and every child in our care.

Organisation

Why is organisation important for schooling?

It is important for children to develop organisational skills so that they are prepared for learning.

Ways to support your child’s organisational development

Research has shown that children’s motivation and achievement improve when their parents and carers are involved in their education.

There are many everyday things you can do to encourage organisational capacity. There include helping your child with the following:

  • Get a good night’s sleep

  • Have breakfast and organise food for the day before arriving at school

  • Get your uniform ready the night before

  • Come to school every day and be on time

  • Prepare everything you need for school the night before

  • Avoid bringing personal or valuable items to school

  • Create a routine for learning

  • Talk to your children about the positive things they have learnt at school
