YEAR 7
Year 7 is an important year as students begin their secondary school education. Our staff, programs and facilities are second to none. A strong foundation in year 7 is the beginning of success in years 11 and 12. Specifically designed to support years 7-9 our science, technology, music and media facilities are of the highest quality ensuring that we prepare our young people for all of life’s challenges and opportunities.
The quality of our Year 7 academic program has been proven in the last 2 years when Doveton College has been identified as one of the top 10 schools in the state for improved NAPLAN results.
Teachers build the rigorous learning program based upon a detailed understanding of individual interests, abilities and learning needs. We seek to develop the whole child, encompassing their social emotional and academic growth, whilst supporting them to embrace the wide range of extracurricular activities on offer.
How are we different?
Each Year 7 class has their own classroom where they are taught by their Core Teacher. Core subjects include English, Mathematics, Humanities, Science, Personal Development, Health and Digitech. Specialists provide classes in Drama, Music, Art, Design Tech, Food, Film, Health and Physical Education, a comprehensive specialist program providing students with a range of experiences.
Additional Literacy and Numeracy programs are provided for students who need support and extension, alongside high performance music and sport programs.
Regular progress reports are provided every 6 weeks along with a detailed end of semester report. Teachers communicate regularly with parents, including formal parent teacher interviews scheduled twice a year. We pride ourselves on the strong positive relationship that we have with students and their families.
